I think that that is a great idea. The first bit of advice is have no shame and make sure everyone in your Social Media network votes. Hound them until they do. There is no real way to track it but their word is good enough.
The one real problem I run into is that Threadless itself is a Social Media community. Make sure you all get on there and interact on the discussion boards, score other peoples t-shirts, and leave lots of comments. Love is reciprocal so the more you spread the more you'll recieve.
Other than that just make great designs. I'm not worrie about that though, you two are a design/illustration power couple!!! Let me know if you have any other questions!
